First time visitor information
Your First Visit
We understand visiting a new dentist can feel overwhelming, so we’ve outlined exactly what you can expect during your initial appointment. Our friendly team is here to make your experience comfortable, easy, and stress-free.
What to Expect at Your First Dental Appointment
Going to the dentist for the first time can feel a little intimidating, but knowing what to expect can ease your mind. Here’s a step-by-step guide to your initial visit:
1. Arrival and Paperwork
When you arrive, you’ll complete some forms about your medical and dental history if you haven’t already done so. This helps us understand your health background and identify any potential concerns.
2. Initial Consultation
A team member will discuss your oral health, addressing any concerns or specific goals you might have. We’ll talk about your daily brushing habits, dietary choices, and previous dental experiences.
3. Comprehensive Examination
Your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, and mouth, checking carefully for cavities, gum disease, signs of oral cancer, and other dental health issues.
4. Digital X-rays
We typically take digital X-rays to clearly assess what’s happening below the surface, including cavities between teeth, bone health, and tooth roots. If you have recent X-rays from another provider, please have them sent to our office before your visit—just ask if you need assistance.
5. Discussion and Personalized Recommendations
Following your examination, the dentist will review their findings, offer tips on improving oral hygiene, suggest any necessary treatments, and discuss a personalized plan for future dental care.
6. Professional Teeth Cleaning
If there’s adequate time, our team will provide a thorough teeth cleaning, removing plaque and tartar buildup to keep your teeth and gums healthy. This cleaning typically includes flossing, scaling, and polishing.
7. Scheduling Your Next Appointment
If further treatments are needed, such as fillings or other procedures, our office staff will help schedule these follow-up visits. If your mouth is healthy, we recommend regular cleanings every six months.
Remember, regular dental care is vital for maintaining overall health. Our caring and professional team is here to support you at every visit!
